Blockworks Shuts Down News Division to Pivot Toward Data Business
Blockworks, a prominent crypto media company, is shuttering its news division and laying off journalists as part of a strategic shift to focus on data and software products. Co-founder Jason Yanowitz announced the move, citing a transformed media landscape where high-quality crypto journalism is now widely available, reducing the need for their editorial services.
The decision marks the end of Blockworks' news operations, which launched in 2021. Yanowitz noted that users increasingly rely on data as a primary information source, prompting the pivot. Affected staff include senior news editor Katherine Ross, economic reporter Casey Wagner, and senior reporter Ben Strack, all of whom confirmed their departures.
